My Hayes County Nebraska landowner is finally offering up his best hunting ground. This approximately 900-acre lease has an abundance of game, from large groups of turkeys, monster whitetails, and trophy class mule deer. On the east side of the property, a secluded creek bottom runs behind the homestead, below the roadside, and out of view from road traffic. The stream, winding its way through the thickets and hardwoods, is the sanctuary to a good size population of whitetail deer and turkey. There were turkeys sounding off on all sides of me during my inspection, I feel like if I were to sit and call, Toms would have come running in from all directions. There was also a ridiculous amount of monster buck rubs and rub lines in that area, these rubs were not made by little fork horns. The landowner said they did not hunt or harvest any deer in 2023, the massive rubs I found were fresh from that year's rut. This east portion of the lease gets little to no cattle grazing.
If you are fortunate enough to draw a mule deer tag, then the west side of the lease is where you'll want to be. There are many canyons and pockets full of cover where the big mule deer of this area can be found. Some row crops will draw both species of deer out into the open, one of those farms you just don't know what might show up.
The southern boundary of the lease is mostly an access pasture pathway that splits off some of the landowner's other land, this pathway will be a shared access to another mule deer hunting lease to the south.
This is a working cattle and agriculture farm.
