This beautifully laid-out Western Kentucky farm sits along the banks of Lake Barkley and offers outstanding deer habitat from top to bottom. On the day of the inspection, deer were everywhere. The does were feeding out in the fields, while the bucks stayed tucked back in the timber. We were able to locate them with a thermal drone, but the thick summer foliage prevented us from getting quality photos. We spotted a group of at least five bucks, and given the area's habitat, it's easy to imagine there are some mature deer among them.
Formerly a working cattle farm, the property now provides exceptional bedding cover and security habitat. The mature timber features large hardwoods with open understories, creating excellent opportunities for strategic stand locations and quality shot opportunities. The southern woodlot includes multiple fingers of timber that naturally funnel deer movement into the larger timber tract on the property.
With abundant bedding cover, rolling terrain, hidden fields, and scattered pockets of timber, this farm gives deer the ability to bed comfortably under nearly any wind direction, making it a property they'll use year-round. Although it encompasses 175 acres, the combination of elevation changes and diverse habitat makes it hunt much larger than its actual size. For anyone looking to target a mature velvet buck in the early season, this farm has all the ingredients to be a standout hunting property.
